The wide and open spaces of the Great Rift valley guarantee you the most breathtaking sights, sounds and smells. Welcome to the kingdom of lions, the cradle of mankind and home of the colourful Maasai people, the nine Kalenjin tribes and the oldest tribal society in the world, the Turkana.

This geological phenomenon, the Great Rift Valley, so named by the scottish explorer John Walter Gregory occurred as a result of a weakened earth crust that tore away creating a jagged rift, thousands of kilometres long. As a result Kenya’s East and West were essentially separated by the rift.

It offers picturesque views of gorges, lakes, volcanic mountains, among others. Most important though is that this is where you will find the Maasai Mara Game Reserve -Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve.

The reserve is a place where the sounds of the Kenya’s wildlife can be heard in the vast silence of its wilderness and where the great migration miracle occurs every year. In the Great Rift Valley you will have an opportunity to trace the origin and evolution of mankind walking in the footsteps of the world famous anthropologist Richard leakey.
