  The Giraffe Centre

The Giraffe Centre is the creation of a Kenyan conservation organisation, the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, Kenya (AFEW). It was founded in 1979.

Visitors get the opportunity to come into close contact and feed these tall graceful animals. The visit can be combined with a look at Daisy Rothschild’s home, Giraffe Manor, which is also one of Kenya’s best-known guesthouses.

The Mamba Village and Ostrich Park are located on the same property just up the road from the Bomas of Kenya off the lang’ata Road.

Mamba is the swahili term for crocodile. Children and adults are always thrilled to watch the families of crocodiles languidly wile the day away beside their shallow pools. Feeding time is quite a spectacle as you watch the professional attendants walk into the crocodiles’ enclosures to toss chunks of meat into their eagerly awaiting open jaws.

Visitors can also go fishing in the man made lake and any boat rider who catches fish from the lake is allowed to keep them.

A walk across the bridge over the lake leads you to the ostrich park where the tall feathered creatures approach the wooden fence to gape at visitors with curious large eyes. There is also a lounge and restaurant at the Mamba village where visitors can enjoy meals and refreshments during their visits.

  Nairobi Safari Walk

The Nairobi safari Walk formally, the Animal orphanage is on lang’ata Road just on the edge of the Nairobi National Park. The Nairobi Animal orphanage was established in 1964, as a refuge for wild animals found abandoned, orphaned or injured throughout Kenya. The orphanage’s main
objective is to foster and then release the animals into the wild whenever possible. However, Giraffe Centre, Nairobi (Maridadipix) Ostrich Park near Bomas of Kenya over the years, it has evolved into a mix between a zoo and an orphanage because for various reasons, some of the animals were not fit to be released into the wild and so have become permanent residents of the orphanage. A visit here is an educational experience for all.

The Nairobi safari Walk today remains the most visited wildlife facility in Nairobi.
