  David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage

The David sheldrick Animal orphanage is situated on the edge of the Nairobi National Park. Here, visitors can observe the amazing accomplishments of dedicated men and women in the successful rehabilitation and hand rearing of orphaned baby elephants. Founded in 1977 by Daphne sheldrick in honour of her late husband, the famous naturalist, David leslie William sheldrick MBE, the orphanage is a charitable organisation, which has managed to successfully raise over 50 baby elephants over the last 28 years.

It is open to visitors every day for one hour when the baby elephants take their daily mud baths between 11am and midday. This is an experience not to be missed.

Nairobi National Park
Nairobi boasts as the only city in the world with a National Game Park within its boundaries. Located just 15 minutes from the city centre, the park was established in 1945 as the first national park in Kenya. It spans over an area of 11 square kilometres. It is a unique wildlife sanctuary where over 50 species of mammals can be found including four of the Big Five with the exception of the elephant, which can only be
found further afield.

  The Railways Museum
The Kenya Railway Museum is located off Uhuru Highway in the city centre. A visitor will get an opportunity to climb on board train carriages dating back to the turn of the century.
The carriages are full of historical photographs and relics from the time when railway construction workers first arrived in Nairobi. A visit to the Railway Museum is a fascinating encounter with the story of Nairobi’s humble beginnings.

  Thika
Take a drive to Thika located some 45 km from Nairobi to arrive at Blue Post Hotel. Established in 1908 as a stop over for white settlers who farmed and lived in central Kenya the hotel has two rivers namely, Thika and Chania surrounding it with their natural waterfalls. These rivers originate from the Aberdare Ranges, in the Aberdare National Park.

Fourteen Falls and Kilimambogo
Fourteen falls is located about 65 km away from Nairobi off Thika - Garissa Road turning at Makutano junction. The falls derive the name from their fourteen successive falls of water along the famous Athi River, border between Thika and Machakos districts.

There is a lot to see and do while in this scenic site – boating, fishing, photography, bird watching among other activities. Near the falls lies Kilimambogo, a swahili word for the Mountain of the Buffalo and home to the late Great Philanthropist sir Macmillan. Half way up the hill, you will find the graves of sir Macmillan, his wife and their house helper. It is on the foot of this hill that Macmillan entertained on separate occasions Theodore Roosevelt, former President of the United states and sir Winston Churchill, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
